Abstract:
A simple expression is obtained for the optical potential which describes the two-stage interaction of an incident particle with a nucleus accompanied by the excitation of the N* baryon resonance in the intermediate state. In the limiting case of short-lived resonances, the shape of the energy dependence of the optical potential is determined by the difference of the effective potentials produced by surrounding nucleons acting on the resonance N* and a nucleon N, and by the momentum distribution of the nucleons in the nucleus. The calculations are carried out for the η meson interaction with 12C, 40Ca, and 208Pb nuclei in the energy range up to 200 MeV.

Abstract:
