ELECTRON-BEAM EXCITATION OF SLOW COMPONENTS OF A THREE-DIMENSIONAL SOLITON-LIKE WAVE STRUCTURE IN A BULK COPPER SAMPLE
Authors:
E.M. Kudryavtsev, A.V. Varava, A.V. Dedov, A.T. Komov.

Abstract:
Thermocouple recordings of temperature variations in a 3-mm-thick wall of a cooled copper tube subjected to irradiation with a (0.4 - 7)-kW/cm2 electron beam show several slow components of a soliton-like wave structure. These components originate on the exterior and interior surfaces of the irradiated portion of the tube, propagate in this portion with velocities of the order of 10-2 cm/s, and are reflected repeatedly from the walls. Velocities of other components differ by about a factor of two. Previously, similar wave structures were observed in various materials (except metals) exposed to IR laser pulses.
