OBSERVATION OF A SATELLITE OF STIMULATED BRILLOUIN SCATTERING IN A LIQUID SOLUTION
Authors:
A.I. Erokhin, V.S. Starunov, I.L. Fabelinskii.

Abstract:
For a stratified solution with a double critical point, measurements are made of the temperature dependence of the hypersonic velocity V from the spectra of stimulated Brillouin scattering. The temperature coefficient of V above the upper critical point is substantially lower than the value below the lower critical point, which agress with the results obtained from the measurements of thermal scattering spectra. In addition to the Stokes line of simulated Brillouin scattering, one more line, either on the Stokes or (much more rarely) anti-Stokes side of the SBS line, was observed for the first time. Its shift with respect to the SBS line was of the order of or smaller than the half-width of the line of thermal scattering. In some cases, a weak anti-Stokes SBS line was also observed.
