STRUCTURAL INHOMOGENEITY OF UNDOPED Bi2223 CRYSTALS OBTAINED BY FREE GROWTH IN CAVITIES WITHIN A KCl SOLUTION-MELT
Authors:
V.P. Martovitsky, V.V. Rodin.

Abstract:
X-ray diffraction was used to study structural inhomogeneity of Bi2223 crystals obtained by free growth in cavities. The layered-structure inhomogeneity of lamellar crystals in the form of interlayers containing other phases and having various thickness and concentration is shown to be more clearly pronounced than the block inhomogeneity in the ab plane. Structural perfection of crystals was found to be independent of the number and type of the layers of other phases. This fact, as well as the tendency of the Bi2223 phase to locate in the interior of the crystals suggest the possibility of a rapid melt-growth of a thin Bi2223 platelet which serves as a substrate for a subsequent formation of the lamellar structure of the crystal.
