QUANTUM OSCILLATIONS IN ANISOTROPIC MESOSCOPIC RINGS IN A VORTEX ELECTROSTATIC FIELD

Abstract:
Quantum properties of a small conducting ring (or a cyclic molecule) pierced by a magnetic field which depends linearly on time are studied. It is shown that if the ring circumference length is smaller than the electron free-path length and if the electron energy in the ring is a periodic function of azimuthal angle the magnetic field excites Bloch quantum oscillations of current (and of magnetic moment) in the ring. The frequency of these oscillations ranges typically from 10⁹ to 10¹¹ Hz, depending on the ring radius and on the rate of the magnetic-field variation.
