CHARGE EXCHANGE CROSS SECTIONS IN COLLISIONS OF MULTIELECTRON IONS
Authors:
I.Y. Tolstikhina, V.P. Shevelko.

Abstract:
The total cross sections of a one-electron charge-exchange occurring in collisions between lowly charged heavy ions of Xe, Cs, Ba, Pb, Bi, and U atoms in the E > O.1keV/n range of relative energies are calculated for the first time using the method of multichannel normalization in the impact parameter representation. The calculated charge exchange cross sections are rather large and attain a maximum equal to σm ≈ 10-15 cm2 for relative collision energies Em ≈ 10 - 30keV/n, i.e., for relative velocities v ≈ 1 au = 2.2 x 108 cm/s. The results of calculations are compared with experimental data and with calculations made by other authors.
