Title: PCR NUCLEAR COMPOSITION AT 1 - 10 PEV OBTAINED BY SPATIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE EAS ELECTRON-PHOTON COMPONENT ACCOMPANIED BY HIGH-ENERGY GAMMA-RAYS IN EMULSION CHAMBERS AT TIEN SHAN LEVEL Authors: N.M. Nesterova, S.B. Shaulov. Abstract: We present the results of measurements by the Tien Shan "Hadron" set-up of the change
in the lateral distribution of the electron-photon component of cosmic-rays EAS accompanied by high-energy
gamma-rays and hadrons, which are detected in emulsion chambers. The dependence of these distributions
on shower electron size Ne (the number of electrons) are presented.
(The value Ne characterizes the energy E0 of primary cosmic-ray nuclei.)
The events are generated predominantly by primary protons and allow us to draw a conclusion concerning
the role of protons at various PCR energies. The results obtained imply the absence of a decrease
in the fraction of light nuclei within the region above the knee of the EAS spectrum at
Ne from 106 up to 107 or an increase in the contribution of particles penetrating into large depths of the atmosphere.
