Abstract:
The spectroscopic properties of the ferromagnet YMn2O5 are investigated for the first time in the range of millimeter to submillimeter waves (2 - 33 cm-1) at temperatures of 5 - 300K. The transmission spectra exhibit four absorption lines, of which three (υ1,2,3) manifest themselves as fine structure of a broad absorption band occurring at ? < TN ≈ 40? immediately after a helical ordering of Mn spins and the forth line υ4 appears at temperatures below ?? = 20 - 22? after the second phase transition. The temperature dependences of resonant frequencies, line widths, and contributions of modes into the magnetic (μ) and dielectric (ε) permittivities are obtained. Comparison of the values of contributions from modes υ1,2,3 with the corresponding quasi-static values of μ and ε shows that they may be due to the exchange spin modes excited by both the magnetic and the electric fields. It is established that the most intense mode υ4 has a dielectric (ferroelectric) nature. The shape of the lines of the discovered modes is analyzed.
