NONLINEAR LONGITUDINAL STRAIN WAVES IN SOLIDS EXPOSED TO PULSED LASER RADIATION
Authors:
F.. Mirzoev, L.A. Shelepin.

Abstract:
An evolution equation is derived to describe the propagation of nonlinear longitudinal strain waves in a laser pulse-irradiated solid with the inclusion of interaction with point defects. The effect of defect production and relaxation on the deformation wave propagation are analyzed. The strain wave propagation in the medium for short relaxation times is found to occur in the form of low ?intensity shock waves. The profile, width, and velocity of motion of a nonlinear wave are derived. The relaxation contributions to the linear velocity of sound and also to the dispersion and dissipation lattice properties are determined.
