Abstract:
A method is proposed for the derivation of nonsingular approximate expressions for the amplitude function β(x) of the solution of the one-dimensional Schrodinger equation. Away from the turning point the functions obtained are smoothly transformed into conventional WKB amplitude functions. Determination of the phase is reduced to quadrature. "Connection formulas" typical of WKB are not necessary.
