INTERPRETATION OF VISIBLE PHOTOLUMINESCENCE OF DIFFERENTLY SIZED SILICON (Si) NANOPARTICLES SUSPENDED IN ETHANOL WITH THE AID OF THE LORENTZ MODEL OF CLASSICAL HARMONIC OSCILLATOR

Abstract:
Silicon (Si) nanoparticles prepared by laser dissociation of gas silane (SiH4) were placed in ethanol. During irradiation of a cell with this medium by an argon laser (4880 A), a luminescent trace of the laser beam propagating through the cell is observed in the visible range. A model of a luminescent process in a medium with suspended nanoparticles is developed on the basis of the Lorentz model of classical harmonic oscillator and the multipho-ton scheme of the interaction between the laser radiation and the nearly resonant medium. Experimental results are compared with the conclusions of the proposed model.
