ON SOLITONIC SOLUTIONS OF MODIFIED NONLINEAR SCHRODINGER EQUATION

Abstract:
A wide class of exact solutions of the modified nonlinear Schrodinger equation Uu + 2ikut + uxx + 2ACO|W|2U = 0, k > 0, with special initial conditions is found. These solutions involve both solitons (regular and singular) and their periodic analogues. The use of the above equation is appropriate in studying the dynamics of short pulses (femtosecond and shorter), where the "slowly varying amplitude" approximation becomes inapplicable and thus the first term of the equation cannot be neglected. It is shown how a consideration of the utt term affects the solution.
