Title: INSTABILITIES OF TANGENTIAL DISCONTINUITY IN A COMPRESSIBLE LIQUID Authors: V.G. Kirtskhaliya, A.A. Rukhadze. Abstract: Instabilities of tangential discontinuity under excitations of surface and bulk waves in a compressible liquid are investigated. Surface waves are excited by any velocity jumps in a liquid flow. However, for a given angle of wave propagation there exists a critical value of the velocity jump above which surface waves in the flow cannot be excited. Bulk waves are on the contrary excited by velocity jumps exceeding the velocity of sound in a liquid, the excitation mechanism being associated with induced Cherenkov radiation from a flow in a resting part of the liquid. The conditions of excitation of both types of instability and the maximum increments of their development are determined.
