Abstract:
We consider the electron multiplication regime in a strong field, when at the multiplication length the electron can gain a relativis-tic kinetic energy. We show that even in such superstrong fields the Townsend electron multiplication mechanism holds if the elec?trode spacing is sufficiently large. The Townsend coefficient and the drift velocity for such fields are calculated.
