Title: THE FORMATION OF A CHAIN OF CAVITIES UNDER THE ACTION OF LASER RADIATION IN A FIBERGUIDE Authors: S.I. Yakovlenko. Abstract: The formation of a chain of equidistant voids (cavities) upon a laser-induced destruction of a light guide is qualitatively ex?plained. It is shown that because of a high glass viscosity the effect under consideration cannot be explained by the Rayleigh capillary instability. It is demonstrated that the high-pressure deformation of the light guide core results in an increase of its volume sufficient to explain the origination of cavities after cool?ing. It is shown that cavity periodicity can be due to a new type instability. A double layer of high-density charges is formed at the plasma-liquid interface. In view of repulsion of like charges the surface tends to increase, which promotes the development of instability responsible for the formation of a chain of cavities.
