Abstract:
We describe the methods for determination of the relaxation time of order parameter fluctuations in the isotropic phase of liquid crystals. The behavior of the relaxation time depending on closeness to the temperature of transition to the liquid-crystal phase is determined from the results of the study of the temperature-dependent behavior of the birefringence induced by an acoustic field. These relaxation times agree with the times measured by flow birefringence and by the spectra of depolarized light scattering.
