CHARGE EXCHANGE BETWEEN EXTREMELY HIGHLY CHARGED IONS AND MULTIPLY CHARGED IONS
Authors:
A.A. Narits, C.. Namba, R.K. Janev, L.P. Presnyakov.

Abstract:
The theory for charge transfer between low- or moderately charged and extremely highly charged ions in the adiabatic region of collision velocities, v ≤ 1 a.u. = 2.19∙108 cm/s, is developed. The dynamic part of the problem is solved on the basis of the decay model. The cross sections are calculated for the reaction A(q−1)+ + BZ+  Aq+ + B(Z−1)+ with the following values of ionic charges, Z = 80, 85, 90 and q = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. The cross sections exhibit a plateau behavior for the medium values of collision velocities and a very sharp decrease for v < 0.2 a.u.
