Abstract:
A numerical model is developed for calculation of the absorption of intense microwave radiation in a collisional-plasma source based on the electron-cyclotron resonance. The model employs the 2D electrodynamic KARAT code. The dependence is found of the microwave-radiation power absorbed in the source on the external magnetic field strength for given plasma parameters (density and temperature). The power supplied is shown to be most efficiently absorbed for magnetic-field strengths exceeding the resonance value or, which is the same, for frequencies lower than the resonance frequency and corresponding to the eigen-wave excitation in plasma.
