NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF ELECTRON PROCESSES IN THE NEAR-CATHODE REGION OF GLOW DISCHARGE UNDER THE NORMAL CURRENT DENSITY
Authors:
P.L. Rubin.

Abstract:
The electron motion in the near-cathode region of glow discharge is numerically simulated to refine the previous results obtained by the author in the framework of the theory of normal current density of glow discharge. The spread of directions for electrons emitted by the cathode under the action of incident positive gas ions is taken into account. This results in a decrease of the initial current density (i.e., the current density near the cathode surface). As a result, the boundary condition at the cathode surface is also changed. Since the emission of electrons and their further motion in gas can be considered as statistically independent processes, it suffices to know the average projection of the velocity of an electron emitted from the cathode onto the normal to the cathode surface.
