Title: BEREZINSKI−KOSTERLITZ−THOULESS TRANSITION
IN YBa2Cu3O7−x SINGLE CRYSTALS Authors: M.A. Vasyutin, A.I. Golovashkin, G.I. Kuznetsov, N.D. Kuzmichev. Abstract: Berezinski−Kosterlitz−Thouless (BKT) phase transition is revealed experimentally in YBa2Cu3O7−x single crystals by direct measurements of volt-ampere characteristics of direct current. We report on measurements of the amplitudes of higher voltage harmonics in the sample response signal in the presence of variable component in the operating current, as a function of temperature and current. The position of the maximum of temperature dependences of the amplitudes of higher voltage harmonics, T*, is shown to coincide with the BKT transition temperature TBKT. Thus we propose a new method of determining this temperature. In the investigated YBa2Cu3O7−x single crystals the quantity T* = TBKT ?l 92 K. Above the temperature T* the voltage higher-harmonic amplitudes fall sharply because of the Nelson−Kosterlitz jump. The effective density of supercurrent carriers, the coherence length, and the magnetic field penetration depth in CuO2 planes are determined on the basis of the results obtained at T = 92 K.
