Abstract:
Exact calculations of the trajectories of relativistic-muon motion in the Earth magnetic field are performed. On the basis of both the results obtained and some simple estimates, the delay times of relativistic muons in extensive air showers of energies of ~ 1015 − 1016 eV are shown not to exceed 10 ns. Therefore, long (??t ?d 50 ns) delay times observed in some studies cannot be associated with muons generated in standard processes of pion and kaon decays.
