Title: ELECTROINDUCED SELECTIVE DRIFT
OF AQUA-COMPLEXES IN SALT SOLUTIONS Authors: V.I. Boiko, M.A. Kazaryan, I.V. Shamanin, I.V. Lomov. Abstract: We discovered the phenomenon of electrically induced selective drift of aqua-complexes in aqueous salt solutions. It is shown that the effect is due to the excitation of rotational-translational motion of supramolecular formations (clusters) formed of water polar molecules around the central ions of the diluted salt. A theoretical model is proposed which points out the existence of a critical electric field for the formation of molecular ``bridges" when the central ion field is balanced by an oppositely aligned field of the ``bridge" of the arranged dipoles. We demonstrated experimentally an oriented drift of solvated Mg2+ and Ca2+ cations from a potential to an earthed electrode with a predominant excitation of Mg2+ cation drift: CMg/CCa = 1.232/1.056. The method proposed can find application for elemental and isotopic enrichment of salt solutions.
