Radiation focusing is accomplished by a spherical normal-incidence multilayer mirror with the structure
d-spacing varying from 60 to 180 Å over the aperture 100 mm in diameter. The function of radiation
dispersion is imposed on a large-aperture free-standing transmission diffraction grating (5000 lines/mm)
operating in the incident beam. The new instrument is used to obtain quasi-continuous and line spectra
of multiply charged ions in a plasma generated by 5-ns pulses with an energy of 0.1 J and a wavelength
of 0.54 μm.
