Abstract:
A version of the theory of rotational motion of polyatomic molecules is constructed which contains an additional operation of three-dimensional space inversion. In a transition into the state of binary rotation, the rotational spectrum of molecule absorption loses lines whose lower and upper rotational levels have the same quantum number of angular momentum. Such lines amount to half of all the lines in the spectrum. We predict an absorption intensity lowering at frequencies of the remaining lines of rotational spectrum because of the small value of the matrix element of the dipole moment operator.
