NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF A HIGH-FREQUENCY INDUCTIVE NEUTRAL LOOP DISCHARGE (NLD)

Abstract:
Numerical simulation is used to determine the structure of a neutral loop discharge (NLD). The simulation is based on the electromagnetic code CARAT which realizes the "particle-in-cell" method with collisions involved using Monte Carlo technique. The model allows for spatial attenuation of an antenna high-frequency electric field, the presence of discharge chamber walls, as well as elastic and inelastic interactions. It is shown that the discharge characteristics in the neutral loop plane differ substantially from the characteristics in other planes located at a certain distance from the neutral loop plane. The analysis of the results of numerical simulation shows a specific role in the formation of discharge structure of those regions where the magnetic field is a trap for plasma electrons. The results of numerical experiment are in good agreement with the available experimental data.
