Abstract:
It is shown that in nuclei of Seyfert galaxies cosmic particles may accelerate up to energies E ≥ 1020 eV. Acceleration occurs at shock fronts appearing in the region of broad emission lines in a magnetic field ? ~ 1G as a result of the motion of dense clouds with velocities exceeding the Alfven velocity and the velocity of sound in the intercloud gas. The synchrotron losses of particles are low. The interactions with IR photons do not affect the efflux of accelerated particles from the sources if the luminosity of the galaxy in the IR ranges is L ≤ 1043 erg/s and the angle between the normal to the galactic plane and the line of sight is sufficiently small. The inclination angle is characterized by the galactic disc semiaxis ratio b/a. Therefore the characteristic features of galaxies-sources are a moderate luminosity in the IR range and a comparatively large ratio b/a.
