Abstract: A key role in maintaining cellular DNA in a compact state is played by linear multivalent polyamines: trivalent spermidine (Spd) and tetravalent spermine (Spe). Experimental data ex?ist on the compactification and resolubilization of DNA molecules for the spermine concentrations Cc and Cd, respectively. Between these threshold values (Cc < ? < Cd), the dense liquid DNA phase coexists with the dissolved DNA phase. In this work, the phase diagram of DNA molecules in aqueous solutions in the presence of tetravalent ions is studied on the basis of the numerical calcu?lations of effective DNA?DNA interactions.
