Title: A STUDY OF THE POSSIBILITY OF EMPLOYING 2.5 - 3.3-MeV NEUTRONS FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF THE DEPTH DISTRIBUTION OF HYDROGEN ISOTOPES IN MATERIALS Authors: B.G. Skorodumov, A.V. Andreev, Y.M. Burmistrov, S.V. Zuev, S.A. Makarov, V.A. Simonov. Abstract: The technique of the determination of hydrogen isotope concentration and their depth
distribution in the near-surface layers of materials is described. The technique is based on the
irradiation of samples with fast monochromatic neutrons from the dd reaction and the detection of
recoil nuclei of hydrogen isotopes. The depth of the analyzed layer and the sensitivity of the
technique are 75,35 and 12μm and 5 * 1019, 5 * 1019, and 5 * 1020 atom/cm3 for H,D, and T, respectively.
The concentration profiles of hydrogen are determined in samples of graphite used in the thermonuclear
reactor JET (England).
