Abstract:
An investigation is made of the linear and nonlinear dynamics of solitary wave pulses under electron-beam instability of a decelerating electrodynamic system. The case of resonance instability of the type of the single-particle stimulated Cherenkov effect is considered. It is shown that for close values of the beam velocity and the group velocity of an electromagnetic wave the pulse width remains invariable, but its shape is nonlinearly distorted. When the group velocity of the wave is lower than the beam velocity, the pulse shape distortion is more significant and the pulse broadens.
